Brief History of the Church

OBC is a dynamic, practical church that cares about the individual and values family life. We are a growing church made up of about 38 nationalities representative of nations all over the globe. We strive for excellence in ministry and seek to cater for the needs of the whole family. Join us as we change lives and impact Nations.

The Open Baptist Church (OBC) was established in 1973 and, as the name implies, its membership is open to all believers. OBC acknowledges Jesus Christ as its Supreme Head and manages all its affairs according to Biblical teaching. It recognises the authority of the Holy Scriptures in all matters of faith and conduct and is committed to preaching Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection and eternal salvation through Him, in the power of the Holy Spirit and to the glory of God the Father.

Our Guiding Principles

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord over every believer, and Head over the Church.
  • We practice the Congregational principle of Church governance
  • We believe in the Priesthood of ALL believers

What we Believe

  • We believe in the ONE TRIUNE God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the Bible as the inspired Scriptures of the Old and New Testament, as the final authority in matters of faith and life.
  • We preach the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born of the virgin Mary, died for our sins, WHO rose again from the dead, to reconcile us to God.
  • We believe in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity.
  • We believe in the resurrection of the just and unjust, and the salvation of all who receive Jesus Christ, whose second coming we, together with the worldwide family of Christian believers, eagerly await.
  • As we await the second coming of our Lord and Christ, we observe, in obedience to His instruction, the two ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Our Leadership

Submitting to the Headship of Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our church functions under the spiritual oversight of our Pastoral Team and Board of Elders.

To facilitate the administrative functions and smooth running of the day-to-day activities, we function under the guidance of the Church Executive Council, the Deacon’s Board, and the administrative and staff teams.
